Adjectives Before Nouns
Genel Kurallar
Sıfat olarak adlandırdığımız bu kelime türlerinin cümle içinde birçok farklı kullanımı bulunmaktadır.
Sıfatlar asla çoğul olmazlar.
1 – Genel olarak sıfatlar isimlerden önce kullanılırlar.
There is a strong relationship between academic achievement and health.
What you have done is not an acceptable behaviour.
2 – İsimlerden önce kullanılan sıfatlar isim sayılabilir tekil ise bir article almak zorundadır. Tekil isimlerle yapılan tamlamalar bahsedilen ismin belirli olup olmaması durumuna göre a/an veya the alırlar.
An additional problem of this model is that there is a lack of coordination between different subjects since each course has its own particular learning contents and learning objectives.

3- Çoğul isimler ve sayılamayan isimlerle yapılan tamlamalar bahsedilen ismin durumuna göre some / many / much gibi belirleyiciler veya the alabilirler.

Adjectives After Nouns
Genel Kurallar
İsimlerden sonra sıfat kullanılan bazı yapılar da bulunmaktadır.
1- Kalıplaşmış ifadelerde isimlerden sonra sıfat kullanılabilir.

etc.
2- -able/-ible ile biten sıfatlar isimlerden sonra kullanılabilirler.
The only way out possible is to reduce our energy consumption.
3- Sıfatlar Indefinite pronounlardan sonra kullanılır.
The Spanish government warned Catalonia’s separatist leader not to do anything irreversible.
4- Yaş, zaman, mesafe, miktar gibi ölçü bildiren sıfatlar isimlerden sonra kullanılır.
It is fifteen metres long.
The lake is two metres deep.
My cousin is five years old.
This coffee is caffeine free.
Adjectives Before Enough
Cümlede sıfatla birlikte enough kullanıldı ise önce sıfat sonra enough kullanılır.
Be naive enough to start, stubborn enough to finish!
Adjectives After Verbs

Bazı fiillerden sonra da sıfat kullanılır.
1- Araya Nesne Alanlar
make + obj + adjective
get + obj + adjective
Although advised not to do so, he has made the building safe over the past six months.
By the time I got the car ready, she had left home to say goodbye.
2- Durum Bildiren Fiillerden sonra da sıfatlar sıklıkla kullanılır.
be / become / get
seem / look / appear
keep / remain / stay
sound / smell / taste / feel
prove / grow / turn
For some reason that I cannot fathom, the soup turned sour overnight.

Sıfat kullanımı özellikle paragraf içerikli sorularda sıfatın nitelemesine göre ipucu olabilir. Bazı sıfatlar yorum içerirken bazıları sadece gerçeklerden bahsederken kullanılır.

* Genellikle -sız, -siz eki olarak kullanılan bu ek bu kullanımında paha biçilemez anlamına sahiptir.
Önceki tabloda bulunan “-ic” ve “-ical” ekleri genellikle farklı anlamlarda sıfatlar oluştururlar.

Order of Adjectives
Genel Kurallar
Bir ismi birden fazla sıfat niteleyebilir. Bir ismi niteleyen birden fazla sıfat varsa sıfatın türüne göre sıralama yapılır.
- Number: İlgili isim(ler)in kaç tane olduğu bilgisi.
One, Two, Three
- Opinion: İlgili isim hakkındaki düşüncenizi belirten sıfatlar.
Beautiful, Ugly, Terrible, Reasonable
- Size: İlgili ismin boyutlarıyla ilgili sıfatlar.
Big, Enormous, Little
- Age: İlgili ismin veya kişinin ne kadar genç veya yaşlı, yeni veya eski olduğu bilgisi.
New, Old, Young
- Shape: İlgili ismin sahip olduğu şekil.
Round, Ellipsoid, Rectangular, Pentagonal
- Colour: İlgili ismin rengi.
Yellow, Green, White
- Origin: İlgili ismin nereden geldiği ile ilgili bilgi.
Turkish, Western, European
- Material: İlgili ismin hangi malzemeden yapıldığı bilgisi.
Metal, Cotton, Plastic
- Purpose: İlgili ismin ne amaçla kullanıldığını belirten sıfatlar. Çoğunlukla -ing ile biterler.
Sleeping (Sleeping bag)
Farklı gruplardan oluşan birden fazla sıfat kullanılmışsa sıfatların arasında virgül kullanımı gerekmez.
