İsimlerden önce sıfat olarak kullanılabilirler.
I am so hungry that I can eat almost anything.
Supplies of food will have been nearly exhausted by the year 2073.
He finished his meeting a few minutes later and almost rudely ejected his business acquaintances from his library.
I am almost done with my investigaton.
ALMOST OR NEARLY ?
1- “-ly” ile biten zarflarla genellikle almost kullanılır.
That woman was looking at us almost curiously.
2- never, no, none, no-one, nothing, and nowhere ile birlikte sadece almost kullanılır.
Almost no other place on earth can offer such diversity as Anatolia does.
3- “like” ile örnek verirken sadece almost kullanılır.
The deaf live in a world without words, almost like a baby.
4- Yardımcı fiillere eklenen “not” ile birlikte olumsuz cümlelerde sadece nearly kullanılır. Verdiği anlam eylemi(n) “yakınından bile geçmez / yapmaya çok uzaktır”.

5- “very, so” ile birlikte sadece nearly kullanılır.

Yapıca olumlu cümleleri anlamca olumsuz hale getiren bu zarflar “hemen hemen hiç / neredeyse hiç” anlamında kullanılır.

Daha önceden bahsedilen cümleyle ilgili yargının tekrarlanması amacıyla kullanılan bu yapılar önceki cümleyle ilgili “ek bilgi” verirler.
Olumlu Cümle Örnekleri
A: My parents realized that I had been studying hard.
My brother also realized it.
My brother realized it as well.
My brother, too, realized it.
My brother realized it, too.
So did my brother.*
* So cümle başında cümleyi devrik yapar.
“Also, as well, too, so” olumsuz cümlelerde kullanılmaz.
“Either ile neither/nor” arasındaki fark “any ile no” arasındaki fark gibidir. Yani cümle olumsuz yardımcı fiil ile tekrarlandı ise either, yardımcı fiil olumlu olarak kullanıldı ise neither kullanılır.
Olumsuz Cümle Örnekleri
A: My parents didn’t realize that I had been studying hard.
My brother didn’t either.
Neither/Nor did my brother.*
* “neither/nor” cümle başında kullanıldıkları zaman cümle devrik olur.
Only
Önüne geldikleri kelimeye vurgu katan bu yapılar özellikle “Paragraf ve Restatement” sorularında çok dikkat edilmesi gereken yapılardır. Karşılığında verilmesi gereken anlam tam olarak karşılanmalıdır.
