Superlatives (Üstünlük)
İngilizce cümlelerde kullanılan bu yapı Türkçe cümleye “en” anlamı katarak ikiden fazla ismin arasında üstünlük bildirmek için kullanılır. İkili kıyaslama durumunda Comparatives yapısı kullanılırken ikiden fazla karşılaştırmada Superlative kullanılır.
Cümleleri Türkçe karşılaştırmalı olarak inceleyelim.
This is the smallest car in the world.
Bu dünyadaki en küçük arabadır.
He is the tallest boy in the class.
O sınıftaki en uzun erkek çocuktur.
They are the best actors in Turkey.
Onlar Türkiye’deki en iyi oyunculardır.
Superlatives - Cümle Yapısı (the / -est)
Superlative yapısının özelliklerini inceleyelim.
Eğer sıfatın okunuşu tek heceden oluşuyorsa sıfatın önüne “the”, ardına “-est” takısı getirilir.
He is tall.
He is the tallest boy in the class.
Phones are cheap.
Phones are the cheapest devices.
This car is small.
This is the smallest car in the world.
“-est” takısı eklerken dikkat etmemiz gereken noktaları inceleyelim.
1 ) Eğer sıfat “-y” harfi ile bitip ve öncesinde sessiz harf varsa “-y” düşer yerine “-iest” gelir.
dirty – the dirtiest
smelly – the smelliest
ugly – the ugliest
2 ) Eğer “sessiz + sesli +sessiz” harf üçlemesi ile bitiyorsa son sessiz harf çift yazılır.
hot – the hottest
thin – the thinnest
big – the biggest
Cümle Yapısı ( the most)
Eğer sıfatın okunuşu tek heceden fazla ise sıfattan önce “the most” gelir.
This car is expensive.
This is the most expensive car in Turkey.
She is successful.
She is the most successful student.
They are creative.
They are the most creative artists in Izmir.
Cümle Yapısı (Düzensiz Sıfatlar)
Bazı sıfatlar düzensizdir ve bir kurala göre hareket edilmez.
Aşağıda sık kullanılan düzensiz sıfatlar bulunmaktadır. Zaman içinde ezberlemenizde fayda vardır.
good (iyi) – the best (en iyi)
bad (kötü) – the worst (en kötü)
much (fazla) – the most (en fazla)
many (fazla) – the most (en fazla)
little (az) – the least (en az)
Superlatives The Kullanımı
Bazı durumlarda sıfatlardan önce “the” bulunmayabilir.
Eğer üstünlük bildirecek olan sıfat bir aitlik sıfatından (possessive adjective) sonra kullanılıyorsa “the” kullanılmaz.
Ismail was my best friend.
They sold their worst car to me.
