Genel Kurallar
İkiden fazla kişiyi, nesneyi, grubu veya eylemi kıyaslamak için kullanılan üstünlük cümlelerinde kullanılırlar.
-est eki okunuşu tek heceli ve bazı iki heceli sıfatlarda ve düzensiz zarflarda kullanılır.
The children of Irish parents are the tallest ones in the northern Europe.

“Most ve least” genellikle okunuşu 2 veya daha fazla heceli sıfatlarda ve tüm düzenli zarflarda (-ly eklenerek zarf yapılanlar) kullanılır.

Bir cümlede Superlative olduğunu belirten prepositionlardan en sık kullanılanları “of ve in” dir.
1- Kıyaslanacak kelime bir yeri veya grubu ifade ediyor ve tekil ise “of” kullanılmaz “in” kullanılır.

2- Superlative yapının ardından kıyaslamak için bir zaman dilimi geliyorsa “in” kullanılmaz “of” kullanılır.

3- Superlative yapının ardından kıyaslamak için çoğul bir isim ve all, lot, bunch gibi ifadeler varsa “in” kullanılmaz “of” kullanılır.

4- Özellikle the first, the last gibi Superlative ifadeler içeren cümlelerdeki Relative Clauselar “to+V1” ile kısaltılabilirler.
